Rumor: Nintendo’s Retro Studio working on Star Fox Grand Prix

Several leaks and rumors have surfaced regarding Retro Studios’ upcoming title. Retro, developers of the Metroid Prime trilogy and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, are rumored to be working on Star Fox Grand Prix, a Star Fox racing spin-off.

As always in the gaming world, rumors should be taken with a grain of salt. A couple of weeks ago, a Reddit user by the name of DasVergeben posted some information about Star Fox Grand Prix, including what it would play like. Fans of Diddy Kong Racing, and its boss fights, adventure mode, and hub world mechanics should be cautiously excited to learn that this leak is comparing the two.

“[Star Fox Grand Prix is] something like Diddy Kong Racing mixed with F-Zero essentially. But more like F-Zero gameplay.” -Reddit user DasVergeben writes.

You’re probably asking yourself “why should we trust this random dude on Reddit?” 4chan has always been known to be a semi-reliable spot for video game leaks, and someone on the boards backed up DasVergeben claims. “All true” wrote the anonymous 4chan* member, alongside this picture of the logo:

Metroid -> Donkey Kong -> Star Fox Grand Prix? Makes sense!

It’s been four years since Retro Studios has released Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, and the secretive collective from Austin, Texas hasn’t said a word on what their next project will be. After all the hits Retro has created, one can only hope that they have their hands on the Star Fox franchise, considering how disappointing Platinum Games’ Star Fox Zero was. Unfortunately, Star Fox enthusiasts are still awaiting the franchises’ return to glory.

With sources saying that Bandai Namco is currently developing Metroid Prime 4, this rumor might have some truth to it. I can confidently say that Retro Studios is working hard on an unannounced project, and it’s only a matter of time before it gets unleashed to the world. E3 2018 is right around corner.

*The Star Fox Grand Prix 4chan thread has since been taken down, adding some fuel to the fire.

Once a proud owner of a (now dead) semi-popular YouTube channel called GamersLeak, Ignacio (aka. Tazz) has set out on a journey to assemble the seven dragon balls to wish it back. Little did he know that it would come back with a different name! Tazz is back and he’s bringing the hot takes to our Lobby; did we mention that he’s little more ambitious now?
