Microsoft had a strong showing with their Xbox E3 2018 conference!
Microsoft came out swinging at their Xbox E3 2018 conference. They started the show with a look at the upcoming installment from their flagship franchise, Halo Infinite. It didn’t stop there. Phil Spencer took the stage and promised a wide variety of world premieres and Xbox exclusives. He lived up to that promise. The briefing was roughly an hour and 45 minutes. There wasn’t any awkward pauses or lull in the showcase. The spotlight was on all the heavy hitters that are making their way to the Xbox One and Windows PC. Whether it was first party, or third party, all of the trailers and gameplay demos shown at the briefing brought the heat.

After its original announcement back in E3 2014, Crackdown 3 has been surrounded by a shroud of mystery. Will Microsoft ever release it? Is it going to fall in line from what we’re used to seeing in a Crackdown game? The answer is yes. Crackdown 3 is bringing the super-cop, all-out destruction sandbox gameplay back that fans of the series all know and love. The Xbox E3 2018 conference trailer features Terry Crews blowing a lot of shit up, and if that’s not the formula to success, I don’t know what is.
Get ready to collect all of the green orbs when Crackdown 3 releases on Xbox One and PC on February 2019.
Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course
Studio MDHR announced new DLC for Cuphead titled The Delicious Last Course. This lively platformer will be getting a new isle, bosses, weapons and charms. Cyberpunk 2077 takes place in Night City, California in the year 2077. The game’s protagonist is V, a cyberpunk. This twisted world is run by a company called MegaCorp, which manages every aspect of the city. The game is set to present an outstanding narrative experience with hacking being central to the story. CD Projekt Red, creators of the Witcher franchise, are the collective developing this game, so don’t except any funny shenanigans with paid microtransactions.
Cyberpunk 2077 is set to release sometime in June, 2019.
Devil May Cry 5
Devil May Cry is back! Capcom dropped the Devil May Cry 5 trailer on us during the Xbox E3 2018 conference and we’re excited. Nero seems to be the main character again with a tease at Dante towards the end of the trailer. Nero loses his right arm and appears to be on a quest for vengeance. He eventually gets it replaced with a metal arm, allowing him to use lightning, grapple enemies, and even slow down time. Devil May Cry 5 will be out Spring 2019 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
Dying Light 2
Techland’s Narrative Designer Chris Avellone came out on stage and shed some light on their latest game, Dying Light 2. The game will feature improved parkour and fluid movements, a bleak and unforgiving setting called ‘the Modern Dark Ages’, and a technical and narrative advancement for the franchise. Players will have to make choices that will affect how the game looks, plays, and events that occur further in the game.
Avellone breaks down an example of this to us. The player undertakes a mission for one of the factions in the game. Depending on the decision made in that mission, the city you’re in can prosper, become safer, and water can be restored, meaning you can replenish your energy on the go OR you bring water to the black market which in turn makes resources and trade more available, but the city will be a dangerous zone.
No release date has been given for Dying Light 2, but it will be released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. The game will be Xbox One X enhanced.
Forza Horizon 4
Playground Games introduced a variety of unique features to Forza Horizon 4 that will improve the quality of the game, and make it more inviting for every type of player. They managed to add seamless transitions between the hub and multiplayer, a way to chat within the game, and world events. Whereas Forza Horizon 3 added SUVs to the mix, Forza Horizon 4 will introduce a plethora of bikes to the already substantial amount of vehicles to your disposal. Furthermore, this new installment will feature dynamic season changes that will impact how the map looks and plays depending on whether it’s spring, summer, fall or winter.
Forza Horizon 4 will run at 60 fps, and will be optimized for 4K gameplay on the Xbox One X. The game takes place in the beautiful, and historic Britain. Forza Horizon 4 is set to release on Xbox One and PC on October 2nd. It will be available on Xbox Gamepass.
Gears 5, Gears POP!, Gears Tactics
Microsoft saves the biggest announcement for last, meaning Gears of War 5 (or as they call it this time, Gears 5) was confirmed. The trailer starts off by showing us Kait Diaz devastated over the loss of someone. JD Fenix arrives and orders everyone to evacuate, but is halted by Kait, explaining that for months she’s been having nightmares about an impending doom she believes to be real. Kait and Del set off to investigate what these visions mean. Judging by the trailer, Gears 5 will go back to the emotional and dark story telling of Gears 1. Disharmony and chaos can be seen brewing among the squad. Gears 5 is slated to launch on Xbox One and PC in 2019.
Gears is receiving the spin-off treatment
Funko Pops will finally be making their way into the gaming universe thanks to Microsoft. Gears POP! is an upcoming mobile game that features our favorite Gears of War characters mashed with Funko Pop aesthetics. Aside from that, info is scarce. Gears POP! will release on the App Store and Google Play next year.
In Microsoft’s attempt of diversifying the Gears franchise, they also revealed another spin-off called Gears Tactics. This turn-based strategy game is set in the Gears of War universe, taking place 12 years before the first Gears of War game. Players will be able to control an army of COG soldiers and defeat the locust scum! Gears Tactics will be released exclusively on Windows 10. No release date has been announced.
Microsoft started off the Xbox E3 2018 conference with a nice little tease of Halo Infinite. This game takes place after the events that occurred in Halo 5, which means that Halo Infinite will be the continuation of Master Chief’s current story.
Microsoft showed that Halo Infinite will be powered by a new engine called the Slipspace Engine. It was created by 343 Industries. Speculating from the trailer, there’s a possibility that fans will be getting an open world Halo for the first time in the franchise’s history. Towards the end, the trailer shows Master Chief inserting a chip into the back of the helmet which might be Cortana.
Halo Infinite be available on Xbox One and PC, and rumor to be out in 2019.
